Nigerian singer Paul Okoye has come under heavy criticism online after making a controversial remark about feminists on social media.
The music star, who is one half of the defunct Psquare duo and twin brother to Peter Okoye, took to his Instagram story to question the age and self-perception of feminists. In his post, Paul suggested that most feminists are above the age of 30 and often rely on what he described as “inner beauty.”
“Why are feminists always above 30? And they always believe they have inner beauty,” he wrote.
The comment quickly triggered widespread backlash, with many social media users accusing the singer of age-shaming and making dismissive, sexist remarks about women. Critics described the post as unnecessary and immature, questioning why a public figure of his stature would make such statements.
Some netizens mocked the singer, while others called on him to focus on his music career and personal life rather than provoking controversy. One user sarcastically asked if feminism was responsible for the fallout between Psquare members, while another questioned his maturity given his age and experience.
The incident has reignited conversations around feminism, gender respect, and the responsibility of celebrities when using their platforms. As of now, Paul Okoye has not publicly responded to the backlash or clarified his comments.
