Celebrity fashion designer Toyin Lawani has publicly accused Lagos-based Euracare Hospital of medical negligence following complications from a surgery at the facility.
Lawani, founder of Tiannah Empire, shared her experience on Instagram on Sunday, detailing a series of life-altering issues after undergoing spine surgery at the private clinic. She claimed to have spent nearly N100 million at the hospital, only to face serious health setbacks.
According to Lawani, she lost the use of her legs, suffered lung infections, and experienced vocal cord damage due to alleged mismanagement. She recounted multiple emergency procedures, including a tracheotomy and repeated surgeries, before traveling to the UK for further treatment.
“Till today I still can’t speak well or walk properly. I had complications and started bleeding in my lungs. They had to reoperate, puncture my lungs, and in the process, destroyed my vocal cords. I lost the use of my legs after being sent home and had to return to the hospital multiple times,” she wrote.
Lawani threatened legal action against the hospital once she regains her strength, highlighting her frustration with what she describes as the clinic’s disregard for patient well-being despite significant costs.
Her revelations come shortly after acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accused the same hospital of negligence resulting in her son’s death. Following these allegations, the Lagos State government announced an investigation into Euracare Hospital.
