Two More Arrested in Delhi’s Turkman Gate Stone-Pelting Incident, Total Now 18

New Delhi, January 12, 2026: The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested two more accused in the Turkman Gate stone-pelting case, raising the total number of people held in connection with the incident to 18. The newly arrested individuals have been identified as Fahim alias Sanu and Shehzad.

The case pertains to an incident on January 7, when around 25-30 individuals pelted stones at police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque, Turkman Gate. The officials were carrying out a demolition drive using JCBs to remove illegal encroachments in the area following a High Court order. Five police personnel suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital.

Background of the Incident

The demolition operation was conducted in the early hours of January 7, after multiple coordination meetings were held with the Aman Committee and other local stakeholders to maintain peace and prevent unrest. Despite these efforts, a small group of miscreants created a disturbance by throwing stones at the authorities. Police described the situation as being brought under control through “measured and minimal use of force.”

Investigations and Arrests

Earlier, Delhi Police had identified 30 individuals allegedly involved in the stone-pelting incident. Identification was based on CCTV footage and viral videos circulating on social media, prompting raids across multiple locations to apprehend the suspects.

The arrest of Fahim and Shehzad comes as part of these continued efforts to take all identified individuals into custody. Authorities had also imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) around the mosque, restricting gatherings and urging residents to offer prayers at home, as a precautionary measure.

Official Statements

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central District) Nidhin Valsan, five police personnel sustained minor injuries during the attack but were promptly treated. Central Range Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Vermastated that all preventive and confidence-building measures had been undertaken before the demolition drive, and the “few miscreants” who attempted disruption were swiftly controlled.

The police continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring law and order in the area while completing the ongoing investigation.

The arrests signal Delhi Police’s determination to hold all individuals accountable for creating public disorder and obstructing lawful civic operations, particularly following directives issued by the High Court.
