CAF Probes Misconduct in Nigeria vs Algeria, Cameroon vs Morocco AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched investigations into alleged misconduct involving players and officials during two quarter-final matches at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, CAF said it reviewed match officials’ reports and video evidence indicating potentially inappropriate behaviour during the quarter-final encounters between Cameroon and host nation Morocco, as well as the match between Algeria and Nigeria.

“CAF has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened investigations into match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-final fixtures between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria,” the statement read.

The continental football body confirmed that the cases have been formally referred to its Disciplinary Board for further investigation. CAF said appropriate sanctions would be imposed if any individuals are found guilty of wrongdoing.

“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons are found guilty,” it added.

CAF also revealed that it is reviewing video footage related to a separate alleged incident involving members of the media accused of misconduct in the mixed zone area following one of the matches.

Reiterating its position, CAF strongly condemned any form of inappropriate behaviour during its competitions, particularly actions directed at match officials or organisers.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour during matches, especially conduct targeting referees or match organisers,” the statement said. “Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against anyone whose behaviour falls short of the professional standards expected at CAF events.”
