Wema Bank has unveiled an upgraded version of its flagship digital banking platform, ALAT by Wema, marking a new phase in the bank’s drive for technology-led financial services.
Branded “ALAT: The Evolution,” the upgraded app is designed to deliver a smarter, faster, and more intuitive digital banking experience. The new version reinforces Wema Bank’s position as a leader in innovation-driven banking in Nigeria.
Among the standout features of the upgraded ALAT app is voice banking, known as SAW, which allows customers to carry out banking transactions using natural voice commands. This feature is aimed at reducing friction, improving accessibility, and simplifying everyday banking activities.
The app also introduces Tap and Pay, enabling quick, secure, and convenient contactless transactions. In addition, uptime prediction has been integrated to improve transparency and reliability by giving customers greater confidence in service availability.
Together, these enhancements are designed to anticipate customer needs in real time while strengthening trust, efficiency, and customer-centric service delivery.
Announcing the upgrade, Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the launch as more than a routine update.
“ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By understanding the future of banking and listening closely to our customers, we have upgraded ALAT into a platform that is smart, intelligent, and dependable,” Oseni said.
He added that the evolution reflects the bank’s promise to deliver innovation that improves how customers live, work, and transact daily.
Oseni assured customers that migrating to the upgraded app is seamless, noting that existing users only need to update the ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and log in with their current details. He also confirmed that customers’ account information and transaction history remain intact.
New users, he said, can download the app from the app stores and onboard easily by clicking the “Get Started” option.
Speaking on the technology behind the upgrade, Wema Bank’s Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, said the bank focused on improving both functionality and overall user experience.
“With ALAT: The Evolution, we have integrated voice banking, contactless payments, and predictive reliability to deliver a platform that responds intelligently to customer needs and is built on powerful technology,” Adeniyi said.
He noted that the upgrade aligns with Wema Bank’s long-term digital vision of building an adaptive, intuitive, and consistently available digital banking platform.
With the launch of the upgraded ALAT app, Wema Bank continues to strengthen its digital-first strategy, offering innovative solutions that empower individuals and businesses to bank confidently in an increasingly digital economy.
