Comedienne Taaooma has raised public concern over the growing problem of illegal waste disposal on Lagos roads.
In a video shared on social media, she highlighted a large pile of refuse dumped on the road median in the Ikotun–Ejigbo–Egbeda axis, with residents navigating the filth as part of their daily routines.
Tagging relevant authorities, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Taaooma called for urgent intervention.
She wrote, “What’s happening in the Ikotun/Ejigbo/Egbeda axis like this? @Lawma_gov @LasepaOfficial. Kindly help look into this @tokunbo_wahab.”
The post sparked reactions from Lagos residents, many of whom noted that the problem is widespread across the mainland, with areas like Shomolu, Mushin, Ketu, Oshodi, Surulere, and Yaba also affected.
Social media users criticized what they see as a systemic failure, claiming that government practices have unintentionally normalized illegal dumping. One user commented, “Instead of sanctioning offenders, trucks are sent to pick up the refuse. By doing this, the government has created a system people now see as normal.”
Others highlighted the health risks, with one resident saying, “One of my neighbours moved out of the estate until further notice due to mountains of garbage, horrid smell, and the possibility of an epidemic.”
