MMA2 Introduces Structured Slot System to Enhance Airport Efficiency

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has launched a structured slot system aimed at balancing demand and capacity across the terminal. The initiative is expected to improve aircraft movement coordination, reduce congestion during peak periods, enhance on-time performance for airlines, and enable more efficient planning for ground handling companies.

According to Remi Jibodu, Head of Aeronautics & Cargo Services and Acting COO, the slot system is part of broader operational optimization measures to ensure reliability, service excellence, and a consistently positive passenger experience. Insights from peak-season operations will directly inform efficiency-enhancing initiatives in 2026.

“In 2026, MMA2 will introduce a structured slot system to balance demand and capacity across the airport terminal,” Jibodu said, noting the terminal’s successful management of high passenger volumes during the year-end festive season.

During the peak period, MMA2 coordinated closely with airline partners and service providers, extending operational coverage beyond scheduled hours when necessary to accommodate late-night and delayed flights. Enhanced ground support, baggage processing, and passenger facilitation ensured minimal disruption to airline schedules while maintaining safety and service standards.

Beyond aeronautical operations, the terminal also improved non-aeronautical services, including retail, passenger amenities, and concessions, creating a more comfortable and engaging environment. Kola Bamigboye, Acting COO and Head of Space & Premises Management, emphasized the importance of innovation and customer-focused services in driving passenger satisfaction.

Enhanced CCTV surveillance and customer experience channels played a critical role in monitoring terminal activities, facilitating the prompt recovery of lost items, and resolving passenger issues efficiently. Passengers praised MMA2’s vigilance, professionalism, and responsiveness during the festive season.

Looking ahead, BASL said MMA2 will continue to prioritize operational efficiency, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement, solidifying its position as a leading example of private-sector-led airport terminal management in Nigeria.
