The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a strict directive to all state coordinators overseeing the party’s nationwide electronic membership registration exercise: ensure that every member is registered, or face removal from their position.
Yilwatda delivered the warning during a Monday meeting with State Registration Coordinators at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. The move follows a report by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, that over two million members had already been registered within a week in some states. The registration exercise is scheduled to conclude on January 30, 2026.
“No member of the party should be left unregistered. Any coordinator who fails will be replaced,” Yilwatda emphasized. He described the coordinator role as a responsibility, not a ceremonial title, vital to strengthening the party at all levels.
The Chairman further reminded coordinators that they are the party’s foot soldiers, and that robust, functional state structures are essential for overall party strength. He also called on State Party Chairmen to cooperate fully with the coordinators for a smooth exercise.
“Nobody contests elections at the National Secretariat. Elections are won at the state, senatorial, constituency, local government, and ward levels. Party performance depends on you,” he said, stressing that discrepancies between claimed membership numbers and election results are unacceptable.
Yilwatda warned that any State Executive Committee (SEC) member who fails to complete registration by January 30, 2026, will be removed from office. He also condemned attempts to exclude or disenfranchise members, emphasizing that neither chairmen, coordinators, nor governors can block registration.
To speed up the process, coordinators are encouraged to use Android phones where tablets are unavailable, and to recruit officials locally to reduce costs. He highlighted Delta State as leading the registration effort, followed by Lagos, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Plateau, urging other states to emulate their pace.
The chairman linked the registration exercise to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms, noting that accurate membership data will enhance internal democracy, improve campaign planning, prevent fraud, and ensure party resources are allocated based on reliable data.
“This registration must succeed. It is the first of its kind in Nigeria and will provide APC with a credible, verifiable, real-time membership database,” Yilwatda said.
