Sunrisers Leeds have confirmed the retention of England stars Harry Brook and Brydon Carse for the 2026 edition of The Hundred, alongside the appointment of Daniel Vettori as the franchise’s new men’s head coach. The moves signal the franchise’s ambition to compete at the highest level in the upcoming summer tournament.
Brook and Carse: Core Players for Sunrisers Leeds
Multi-format internationals Brook and Carse have been integral to the team, formerly known as the Northern Superchargers, since the inaugural season of The Hundred in 2021. The pair were both part of England’s recent Ashes campaign in Australia, with Brook serving as Test vice-captain and Carse providing pace and depth to the bowling attack.
At 26, Brook remains one of England’s most versatile batters, capable of anchoring innings and accelerating the scoring rate in T20 and 100-ball formats. Last season, he played nine matches for the Superchargers, scoring 227 runs at an average of 37.83, and is reportedly set to earn around £500,000 for the 2026 tournament.
Fast bowler Carse, 30, did not feature in last year’s competition, having been rested by the ECB to manage his workload. His return is expected to strengthen Sunrisers’ pace attack and provide valuable international experience.
Daniel Vettori Takes Charge
Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori, 46, succeeds Andrew Flintoff as head coach of the men’s side. Flintoff, 48, departed after two seasons, citing that the Sunrisers’ offer did not meet his expectations. Vettori has been head coach of IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2023 and brings a wealth of international experience to Leeds.
“I am looking forward to the upcoming season with the Sunrisers and hope the orange army can fill the stands,” Vettori said, expressing his excitement to lead the team in The Hundred 2026.
The Sunrisers are also set to welcome direct signings Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh and seamer Nathan Ellis, both available for the entire tournament.
Women’s Team Retentions and Coaching Changes
For the women’s side, the franchise has retained Annabel Sutherland, Phoebe Litchfield, and Kate Cross, all key players in last year’s championship-winning Northern Superchargers team.
- Phoebe Litchfield was the leading run-scorer, amassing 292 runs in 10 innings at 41.71.
- Annabel Sutherland contributed 206 runs at 51.50 and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 16 scalps.
- Kate Cross averaged 14.06 with the ball, narrowly behind Sutherland’s tally.
The women’s head coach role will now be held by South African Adrian Birrell, replacing Lisa Keightley, who left for the Women’s Premier League Mumbai Indians.
Other Key Hundred 2026 Moves
- Nat Sciver-Brunt remains at Trent Rockets.
- Big-hitting Australian Tim David joins the men’s Rockets squad, becoming the team’s first men’s signing for the season.
- England all-rounder Alice Capsey moves from Oval Invincibles to Birmingham Phoenix, joining established players like Ellyse Perry, Jacob Bethell, and Rehan Ahmed.
The 2026 Hundred will run from 21 July to 16 August, bridging England’s white-ball series against India and a Test series against Pakistan, promising an exciting summer of cricket with domestic and international stars competing in the fast-paced 100-ball format.
