NIMC Records 127 Million Nigerians in NIN Database

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has confirmed that 127 million Nigerians were registered in the National Identity Number (NIN) database as of December 2025.

NIMC’s spokesman, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, revealed the figure in response to inquiries on the country’s updated NIN enrolment. He also noted that detailed enrolment statistics would soon be uploaded to the commission’s website and urged Nigerians to use the digital platforms provided by NIMC to register for NIN or update their personal data.

As of October 31, 2025, NIMC reported 123.9 million enrolments, with Lagos State leading with 13.1 million. The enrolment distribution across Nigeria showed near parity between the North and South.

Top 10 states by NIN enrolment:

  • Lagos – 13.1 million
  • Kano – 11.5 million
  • Kaduna – 7.3 million
  • Ogun – 5.1 million
  • Oyo – 4.7 million
  • Katsina – 4.2 million
  • FCT Abuja – 4.06 million
  • Rivers – 3.6 million
  • Delta – 3.2 million
  • Bauchi – 3.2 million

States with lowest enrolment:

  • Kwara – 2.09 million
  • Imo – 2.09 million
  • Yobe – 2.08 million
  • Enugu – 2 million
  • Kogi – 1.9 million

Gender data showed 54,206,154 females and 69,700,164 males in the national database.

Dr. Adegoke reiterated the importance of NIN registration as a key tool for national identification and digital public services, encouraging all eligible Nigerians to ensure their records are up to date.
