MOUAU Staff Reject Corruption Allegations Against Vice-Chancellor

Staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, have dismissed allegations circulating on social media accusing the university’s management of financial mismanagement.

Speaking on the university campus on Tuesday, the workers described the reports as false and malicious, alleging that they were sponsored by individuals bent on creating tension and instability within the institution.

In a vote of confidence jointly moved by Professor Michael Ekwe and Ogechi Umeh, the staff expressed support for the administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, stating that his leadership has restored peace and stability to the university.

According to them, the current administration has recorded notable achievements, including the recovery of previously lost academic programmes and the securing of land for the university’s permanent site.

“The Vice-Chancellor worked tirelessly in pursuit of institutional peace and stability,” Professor Ekwe said. “We are surprised that individuals who do not understand how a university operates would allow themselves to be sponsored to smear his name on social media.”

Earlier, while addressing staff, Professor Iwe highlighted several projects executed by his outgoing administration, noting that these were achieved despite limited financial resources.

He also expressed concern over what he described as deliberate attempts by his “opponents” to tarnish his administration’s reputation through social media campaigns, including threats to report him to anti-corruption agencies.
