Tiwa Savage clarifies, “I didn’t break up with him” as she discusses her divorce from TeeBillz.

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Tunji Balogun, also known as TeeBillz.

TeeBillz publicly announced their divorce in 2018 via social media, but in an interview with The Receipts Podcast, Tiwa Savage clarified that she didn’t initiate the breakup. She accused TeeBillz of being the one responsible for the separation, revealing that she was still dealing with postpartum challenges after the birth of their son when the announcement was made.

Tiwa shared, “The way our situation unfolded, he announced it online. I didn’t break up with him, but I was the one who was attacked.”

She explained the emotional and physical toll it took on her: “My baby was just a few months old. My body wasn’t the same as I was coping with postpartum and depression. Only a few people came to see me, while everyone went to him.”

The singer went on to say that the situation worsened after she did an interview to share her perspective. “People criticized me, saying, ‘How dare you speak out? As a woman, you’re supposed to keep the family together, it’s your fault.’”

The public backlash, she revealed, was deeply painful. “It was heartbreaking how the public blamed me. After that, I decided I would never discuss it again. It was a real eye-opener for me, and it left me feeling depressed and angry for a long time. Then I transformed into the ‘African Bad Girl.’ I started getting tattoos, wearing bikinis, and short skirts.”
