Colleen Hoover Shares Cancer Diagnosis and Recovery Update as She Completes Radiation

Colleen Hoover, the best-selling author of It Ends With Us, revealed a deeply personal health update, sharing that she is finishing her course of radiation after a recent cancer diagnosis. Hoover, 46, confirmed that while she has undergone surgery to remove the cancer, she did not require chemotherapy. She has also shared insights about the potential causes of her illness, giving fans a rare look into her journey.

Colleen Hoover Announces Final Days of Radiation

On Monday, January 12, Hoover posted to her Instagram Stories, revealing that she has just one more day of radiation treatment at Texas Oncology.

“Second to last day of radiation,” she captioned the post. “I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @Texas.Oncology, but they’ve been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”

Her candid update highlights both her gratitude for her medical team and the relief of nearing the end of a challenging treatment journey.

The Timeline of Hoover’s Cancer Diagnosis

Hoover first disclosed her diagnosis in December 2025 on a private fan Facebook page, choosing to delay sharing the news publicly until she knew the outcome of her treatment. She underwent surgery to remove the cancer and was advised to complete radiation therapy, without the need for chemotherapy.

In October 2025, Hoover had previously pulled out of work commitments, including the premiere of Regretting You, due to a health-related surgery.

“I’m super bummed, but am having an unavoidable surgery and can’t travel for a while,” she shared at the time. “I’ll live vicariously through you guys…so sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together.”

Insights Into the Cause of Her Cancer

Earlier this month, Hoover visited a geneticist to understand more about her diagnosis. She shared the results, emphasizing that her cancer was not caused by family genes, HPV, or excessive hormones.

“This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress,” Hoover explained in a Facebook post.

She added humor to her update, joking about her dislike for vegetables, exercise, and healthy habits, while expressing gratitude for being alive:

“I’m happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right. If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it.”

Colleen Hoover’s Career Amid Health Challenges

Despite her health struggles, Hoover has had an incredibly busy few months. Her novels continue to reach audiences both on page and screen:

  • Regretting You became her second book adapted for film in October 2025.
  • Production on Verity began in 2025, starring Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett.
  • Reminders of Him, another adaptation, is set to hit theaters on March 13, 2026.
  • Her latest book, Woman Down, was released on January 13, 2026, and explores themes of social media backlash and creative burnout.

Hoover emphasizes that, despite apparent similarities, her newest novel does not reflect her personal experiences.

“There are very few similarities between my life and this book,” she told PEOPLE.

Finding Positivity and Connection Through Writing

Hoover expressed hope that her new book will help her connect with readers in meaningful ways, even as being in the public eye can sometimes feel overwhelming.

“Writing can be so rewarding, but being in the public eye can also sometimes make it terrifying,” she said. “I don’t mind walking away from it every now and then when it’s not working out, but I’ve always come back to it. So far.”

What This Means for Fans

Colleen Hoover’s openness about her cancer diagnosis, surgery, and radiation serves as both an update for her readers and an inspiration for anyone navigating health challenges while balancing professional commitments. Her candid posts remind fans that even best-selling authors face serious personal battles — and that resilience, humor, and gratitude can help guide the way.
