Gold-Plated Kalash Stolen from Delhi Jain Temple Recovered; Two Arrested

New Delhi | October 14, 2025:
Delhi Police have recovered a gold-plated kalash stolen from a Jain temple near Durga Puri Chowk and arrested two people — including a woman — for receiving stolen property, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrests were made from Sundar Nagri and New Mustafabad in northeast Delhi. Police are still searching for the burglar who stole the temple relic, they added.

Burglary Reported on October 11

A case of burglary was registered at Jyoti Nagar police station on October 11, after temple authorities noticed that the ornamental kalash installed atop the shrine was missing.

Police launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting door-to-door inquiries.

Scrap Dealers Nabbed

Investigators traced the trail to a 42-year-old scrap dealer in Sundar Nagri, who was found with parts of the kalash. During questioning, she admitted to having received the stolen item from a burglar.

Following her statement, a police team conducted a raid in New Mustafabad, recovering the remaining portions of the kalash from Danish (24), another scrap dealer.

Both have been booked under Sections 411 (receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the main accused.

Ongoing Investigation

“Investigation in the case is ongoing,” a senior police officer said, adding that the recovered relic will be returned to temple authorities after due verification.
