Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reversed their earlier call for a political resolution, renewing their push to continue the impeachment process against Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu.
The lawmakers, all of Ijaw extraction, urged Speaker Martin Amaewhule to reopen the chambers so that the impeachment proceedings could resume. The shift comes after the House failed to sit as scheduled on Thursday, despite plans to reconvene.
On Friday, legislators met at the conference hall within their residential quarters, emphasizing that their decision is driven by the governor and deputy governor’s alleged refusal to address constitutional issues cited in the impeachment notice.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Barile Nwakoh (Khana Constituency I) and Hon. Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor Constituency II) stated that they had abandoned previous political negotiations and were fully committed to moving forward with the impeachment.
The political crisis in Rivers State continues to deepen as the House prepares to resume the proceedings.
