The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has criticized Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his recent remarks suggesting that the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not resolve insecurity in the South-East.
The group also called on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to persuade his father to honor the promise allegedly made to Nnamdi Kanu’s family.
In a statement issued by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, he urged President Tinubu to ignore Soludo’s opinion.
Soludo had stated last year that even if Nnamdi Kanu were released, he doubted it would help curb insecurity, as the focus of the region had shifted from liberation to wealth. He also criticized Kanu’s supporters for allegedly becoming enemies of their own people.
Meanwhile, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, revealed that the family had an agreement with President Bola Tinubu regarding Kanu’s release, a pact allegedly made during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election. Prince Emmanuel emphasized that the president was aware of the agreement.
Okwu has now called on President Tinubu to honor this agreement, which he believes would bring lasting peace to the South-East.
Okwu expressed his disappointment that an Igbo leader, especially a sitting governor, would undermine the call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release. He criticized Soludo for his inability to address insecurity in Anambra and his tendency to blame others.
The Ohanaeze youths’ president urged President Tinubu’s government to fulfill the agreement, asserting that it could help ease the ongoing tensions in Igbo land.
He concluded by affirming that President Tinubu, known for his integrity, should not be swayed by figures like Soludo. He emphasized that the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would significantly reduce tensions in the South-East region.
