Two Teen Athletes Die by Suicide at Kollam SAI Hostel, Police Investigation Underway

In a tragic incident in Kerala, two teenage girl athletes were found dead in their room at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kollam district, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The victims were a 15-year-old athletics trainee from Kozhikode district and a 17-year-old kabaddi player from Thiruvananthapuram district.

The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Thursday after the girls failed to report for their morning training session. Hostel authorities reportedly knocked repeatedly on their door, and when there was no response, they entered the room and found the girls deceased.

A senior officer at the Kollam East police station, who requested anonymity, stated, “The girls were supposed to sleep in separate rooms, but they spent the night in the same room on Thursday.” Police recovered a suicide note from the room, in which the girls indicated their intention to end their lives, though the note did not specify any reason for their actions.

Post-mortem examinations have begun, with at least one completed, and the bodies will be handed over to the familiesfollowing the conclusion of autopsies. The officer added that statements will be recorded from SAI officials and fellow hostel residents to investigate the circumstances that may have led to the tragic incident.

The families of the victims have not yet filed any complaints with the police, according to officials familiar with the matter. The Sports Authority of India has stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
