Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Guinea-Conakry to attend the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium, Nongo, Conakry.
This was confirmed by Shettima’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, in a statement released on Friday. The statement also noted that after attending the inauguration, Shettima will proceed to Davos, Switzerland, for the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum.
Shettima’s participation in President Doumbouya’s inauguration comes on the heels of his electoral victory. The event underscores Nigeria’s strategic leadership within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), highlighting the country’s role in supporting Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year transition.
The statement further emphasized that Shettima’s visit serves Nigeria’s broader diplomatic goals under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aimed at promoting regional leadership, economic partnerships, and global economic integration.
Additionally, the visit seeks to strengthen bilateral trade relations, following a recent boost in Nigerian exports to Guinea, particularly in manufactured goods and agricultural products, which saw an increase to $3.29 million.
