Lagos Government Orders Investigation Into Death of Twin Boys Following Routine Immunisation

The deaths of nine-month-old twins, Testimony and Timothy Alozie, have prompted the Lagos State government to launch a formal investigation into routine immunisation procedures, amid growing public concern over vaccine safety and primary healthcare delivery.

The incident gained attention after the twins’ father, Samuel Alozie (known on TikTok as Promise Samuel), shared videos showing the lifeless bodies of his children in separate body bags. He explained that the twins reportedly died less than 24 hours after receiving routine vaccinations at a primary health centre.

“They could not eat, play, or behave as usual. They were just weak,” Alozie recounted. He added that the nurse had advised administering paracetamol if the babies developed a fever, but despite following these instructions, their condition worsened.

The father questioned the explanation reportedly offered by the health centre, which suggested the deaths were caused by foodborne bacteria. “How can food bacteria kill my children? They were healthy for nine months,” he said.

In response, Lagos State authorities have ordered a postmortem examination while investigations continue by both the police and state health officials. A government spokesperson emphasized that the vaccine in question has been administered to many children before and after the twins, with no similar cases reported.

“The postmortem findings will be crucial in addressing public concerns and clarifying the circumstances surrounding this tragic event,” the official said.

The case has sparked wider debate on public confidence in primary healthcare and vaccine safety, highlighting the importance of transparency and rigorous oversight in routine immunisation programs.
