New Delhi, January 18, 2026: A Tejas Rajdhani Express travelling from Delhi to Patna was briefly stopped on Saturday after a bomb threat was reported, prompting the evacuation of passengers and a thorough security check. Officials confirmed that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) did not find any explosives on the train, and it was later cleared to continue its journey.
According to Gulzar Singh, commanding officer of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Aligarh, the threat was communicated via Delhi Control. “As soon as we received the information, our entire BDS team, local police, civil authorities, dog squads, fire brigade officers, and divisional officers checked the train. Nothing was found,” Singh told ANI.
The train was halted for 31 minutes to allow security personnel to complete the clearance process safely. “The train has now been given clearance and is proceeding to its destination,” the officer added.
The incident echoes a similar scare earlier this month at Mau railway junction in Uttar Pradesh, when a phone call claimed a bomb had been planted on the Kashi Express travelling from Gorakhpur to Mumbai on January 6. Authorities promptly evacuated passengers and conducted a thorough inspection of the train and platform, ultimately finding no explosives. Superintendent of Police Elamaran G said the call appeared to be a hoax, and investigations were underway to identify the person responsible.
In both incidents, a coordinated response between the RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP), local police, and bomb disposal squads ensured passenger safety. Passengers were shifted to safe areas while all coaches and surrounding platforms were checked, highlighting the strict safety protocols in place on Indian Railways.
While no explosives were discovered, officials emphasised the seriousness with which such threats are treated. The prompt evacuation and inspection procedures are part of a broader effort to safeguard passengers on high-profile trains like the Tejas Rajdhani and Kashi Express, which are considered critical for inter-state connectivity and carry large numbers of daily passengers.
These incidents underline ongoing challenges for railway security in India, including the need for vigilant monitoring of communications and rapid coordination between multiple security agencies. Authorities have warned passengers to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, stressing that even hoax calls are treated as criminal offences under law.
The Tejas Rajdhani Express, known for its high speed and modern amenities, has now resumed its journey, while investigations continue to determine the origin of the bomb threat. The Ministry of Railways reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers across the national railway network.
