Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed his belief that Arsenal and Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is more than ready for a move to the Premier League. The Swedish striker has been in sensational form since joining Portuguese side Sporting CP from Coventry City in 2023. Since his arrival, Gyokeres has made a significant impact, scoring 66 goals and providing 19 assists in just 67 appearances for the club.
Gyokeres’ impressive performances have caught the attention of major Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, where fans are hoping that Ruben Amorim, who is set to take over as manager next week, will bring the talented forward to Old Trafford. United have struggled with scoring goals this season, netting only nine goals in 10 Premier League matches. However, they are likely to face stiff competition from Arsenal, who are also said to be interested in securing the striker’s services.
In a recent appearance on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel spoke highly of Gyokeres, praising his qualities as a potential Premier League player. “Definitely. For me, he is a Premier League player. He has every attribute to be successful in the Premier League – strong, big, quick, and most importantly, he is a goal scorer,” Mikel said.
The former Chelsea star also highlighted Gyokeres’ exceptional goal-scoring record, noting that his stats make him stand out among Europe’s top strikers. “His goal-scoring ratio is better than any striker right now in Europe, the stats are there to back it up,” Mikel added. “He has been absolutely fantastic. Scoring three goals against Man City is something you don’t hear very often. He’s been outstanding and reminds me a little bit of [Erling] Haaland.”
