FCTA Workers Shut Down Secretariat Over Labour Disputes

Activities at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat came to a halt on Monday as workers, under the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), launched an industrial strike over unresolved labour and welfare concerns.

The strike, which affects all cadres of FCTA staff, followed a directive issued by JUAC on January 8, 2026, after authorities allegedly ignored earlier demands. Key grievances include unpaid promotion arrears, delays in promotion exercises, extensions of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries, and non-remittance of statutory deductions such as pension contributions and the National Housing Fund.

JUAC criticized the 2024 promotion examinations, claiming many members were adversely affected, and warned that the industrial action would persist until management addresses all demands.

Ahead of the strike, JUAC circulated a “Code Remain at Home” notice, urging staff to cooperate and stay away from work, emphasizing slogans like “Aluta Continua! Victoria Acerta!” and “Enough is enough!”

Security personnel have been deployed to maintain order at the secretariat, while the FCTA has yet to issue an official response.

The strike underscores growing tensions over employee welfare, career progression, and administrative transparency within the FCTA.
