The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on Igbo people at home and in the diaspora, particularly residents of Abia State, to oppose what it described as a political alliance between Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group warned that the alliance poses a serious threat to the peace and prosperity currently enjoyed in Abia State and the wider South-East region.
IPOB alleged that the duo, alongside other politicians within the All Progressives Congress (APC), are working to reverse the progress Abia State has recorded under the current administration of Governor Alex Otti. The group cautioned Abians to be vigilant against what it described as manipulative political actors seeking a return to past governance styles marked by stagnation and mismanagement.
According to the statement, IPOB accused Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of previously entrenching godfatherism in Abia State and claimed that similar political networks are now being promoted across the South-East with the involvement of Benjamin Kalu and other former governors.
The group further alleged that the political interests of these figures are aimed at extinguishing what it called the “new light” in Abia State, following what it described as 24 years of poor leadership prior to the current administration.
IPOB urged Ndigbo to resist any political arrangement that could derail the state’s ongoing reforms and development, stressing that sustained peace and prosperity depend on rejecting a return to past political practices.
