Istanbul, Turkiye, October 26, 2025 – The Gaza Tribunal has issued a strong moral verdict, declaring that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and urging that Israeli perpetrators and their Western enablers must face accountability. The tribunal, established in London in 2024, held four days of public hearings in Istanbul before releasing its findings.
Presided over by Richard Falk, former UN special rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, the tribunal documented crimes including mass destruction of homes, deliberate starvation of civilians, torture, and attacks on journalists. The year-long process involved gathering evidence, hearing witness testimonies, and archiving proof of atrocities.
The tribunal sharply criticized post-war plans proposed by US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, arguing they ignore Palestinian rights under international law and fail to hold perpetrators accountable. It called for Palestinians to lead Gaza’s restoration while demanding Israel and its enablers bear full responsibility for reparations.
Highlighting global complicity, the tribunal singled out Western governments, particularly the United States, for providing diplomatic cover, weapons, intelligence, and economic support to Israel.
While the tribunal is not a legal court and does not assign criminal liability, it frames its judgment as a civil society response to genocide, emphasizing that impunity fuels ongoing violence.
Israel is also facing formal genocide accusations at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in January 2024 ruled it is “plausible” Israel may be violating the 1948 UN Genocide Convention. Israel has consistently denied all genocide claims.
The tribunal concludes that genocide in Gaza is a matter of global concern, urging international accountability and justice for victims.
