Lagos Health Centre Falls Into Disrepair as Residents Demand Urgent Intervention

The Iberekodo Primary Health Centre in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, has reportedly fallen into a severe state of neglect, raising concerns among residents who depend on the facility for basic healthcare services.

According to findings from a recent visit by a Tracka monitoring team, the health centre—meant to serve thousands of people in the community—appears largely abandoned and unfit for medical care.

During the inspection, the team observed that the facility lacks functional medical equipment and suffers from significant structural damage. Parts of the roof were found to be broken, ceilings were leaking, and several rooms were deemed unsafe for treating patients.

The situation is further worsened by the absence of running water, severely affecting hygiene and sanitation within the centre. Tracka reported that toilets cannot be flushed, forcing health workers to walk long distances daily to fetch water before attending to patients—an ordeal that exposes both staff and residents to serious health risks.

Despite these harsh conditions, community members continue to rely on the centre due to the lack of alternative healthcare facilities in the area.

Tracka noted that the poor state of the facility disproportionately affects pregnant women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable residents, who have limited options for medical care.

The monitoring platform has called on the Lagos State Government and relevant federal health authorities to urgently intervene.

“Dear Gov. @jidesanwoolu and Hon. @Olowajaja, this level of neglect is unacceptable,” Tracka stated. “We urge the Lagos State Government, @followlasg, @NphcdaNG, and @Fmohnigeria to prioritise the immediate renovation, proper equipping, and full restoration of the Iberekodo Primary Health Centre for the benefit of the people.”
