The Conference of Civil Society for Transparency and Accountability (COCTA) has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what it described as a lack of decisive action on allegations of maladministration involving the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr Adebowale Adedokun, and his Chief of Staff, Olanrewaju Obasa.
The coalition’s position was contained in a communiqué issued after its general meeting held on Monday in Abuja. The statement, dated January 19, 2026, was jointly signed by COCTA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Olumuyiwa Onlede, and its General Secretary, Haruna AbdulSalam.
COCTA said its concerns followed an earlier peaceful protest at the EFCC headquarters and the submission of a detailed petition outlining alleged irregularities within the BPP. According to the group, the anti-graft agency has yet to demonstrate visible or concrete steps toward addressing the allegations.
The coalition described the perceived inaction as worrisome, especially given the seriousness of the claims and the constitutional duty of anti-corruption agencies to safeguard public resources and maintain public confidence.
“In view of these developments, and in keeping with our responsibility to represent citizens whose voices are often unheard, COCTA has resolved to intensify its advocacy,” the communiqué stated.
As part of its next line of action, the group announced plans to stage a peaceful protest at the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where it intends to submit a fresh and formal petition calling for a comprehensive, independent and transparent investigation into the activities of the BPP leadership.
COCTA also explained that an earlier proposed protest at the President’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, was intentionally suspended out of respect for the President’s privacy and right to rest. However, the group stressed that the decision should not be seen as a withdrawal from its demands or a weakening of its resolve.
“We reiterate that the pursuit of transparency, accountability and good governance remains ongoing. Our advocacy will continue through peaceful, lawful and sustained civic engagement,” the statement said.
The coalition added that the next phase of its action would formally commence next week at the ICPC headquarters.
