
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on political parties in Osun State to conduct peaceful, transparent, and law-abiding primaries ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The appeal was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, during a stakeholders’ meeting on party primaries held on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Dr. Agboke said the engagement was part of INEC’s continuous efforts to ensure that political actors fully understood and complied with the commission’s election timetable and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
“We must always continue to engage you on each item on the timetable of the 2026 governorship election so that we are on the same page,” he stated.
According to him, political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between November 24 and December 15, 2025, in line with Section 84 of the Electoral Act. He noted that while 19 political parties are registered nationally, 18 are currently active in Osun State.
