Bauchi Government Issues New Executive Order on Child Rights

Bauchi Governor Signs Executive Order to Strengthen Child Protection Measures

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has taken a decisive step to combat child abduction and trafficking by signing Executive Order 002, 2025.

Announcing the move on his official X handle on Tuesday, the Governor underscored the significance of the order in bolstering community safety and safeguarding vulnerable children.

“This action comes after the successful rescue of seven abducted children from a trafficking syndicate in southeastern Nigeria. This victory was achieved through the collaboration of the Nigerian Police, airport authorities, and state First Ladies. I commend their efforts in ensuring these children were safely returned home,” he said.

The Executive Order introduces several critical measures, including:

  • Mandatory tenant profiling: Landlords must verify the identities of tenants before leasing properties.
  • Community leader responsibilities: Leaders are tasked with identifying and vetting all tenants within their areas.
  • Transport union involvement: Unions are required to verify individuals traveling with children and report suspicious activities.

Governor Mohammed called for active community involvement in protecting children, stating, “I urge parents to stay vigilant and encourage communities to take collective responsibility in safeguarding our children. The cooperation of landlords, tenants, community leaders, and transport unions is essential for the success of these measures.”

He also issued a firm warning against non-compliance: “Violations of this order will attract penalties. No one is above the law. These steps aim to enhance security and make Bauchi State a safer, more welcoming place for residents, businesses, and investors.”

The Governor concluded with a message of hope and unity: “Together, we can create a safer future for our children and our state.”
