The Forum of Security Experts (FOSE) has expressed its support for Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, concerning the allocation of private airstrips to individuals, including those associated with Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church. This backing comes in the wake of reports indicating that some National Assembly members called for the revocation of Oyedepo’s airstrip license due to security concerns. However, Keyamo has firmly refuted these claims, clarifying that the House of Representatives did not issue any directive to revoke private airstrip licenses.
Keyamo also suggested that the motion for the revocation of private airstrips put forward by a lawmaker stemmed from a misunderstanding of the aviation sector. He emphasized that the matter has been referred to the House Committee on Aviation for further consideration, and he believes that lawmakers will come to understand the necessity of private airstrips once the Ministry provides adequate explanations. In a statement on social media platform X, Keyamo noted, “By the time we explain to them how private airstrips work and the processes they undergo by our agencies before the final approval, they will be satisfied.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, FOSE reiterated its endorsement of Keyamo’s position regarding private airstrips. Signed by Danladi Adamu, the statement commended the minister for his efforts to modernize Nigerian airports and invest in advanced technologies to enhance the aviation sector’s efficiency, safety, and security. FOSE highlighted that the allocation of airstrips to qualified individuals and organizations, such as Living Faith Church, presents a range of benefits, including economic growth, job creation, and the stimulation of local development.
The experts pointed out that private airstrips improve access to remote areas, which is vital for facilitating humanitarian assistance and medical evacuations. Additionally, they noted that these airstrips support tourism by allowing visitors to explore Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions, thereby boosting local economies and aiding small businesses.
The Forum of Security Experts urged the National Assembly to back the Ministry’s initiatives aimed at enhancing aviation security and development. Their statement emphasized their strong endorsement of Keyamo’s position on the allocation of airstrips, despite the surrounding controversy, affirming that the House of Representatives had not mandated the revocation of any private airstrip licenses.

Furthermore, the allocation of airstrips to qualified individuals like those associated with Living Faith Church is viewed as beneficial not only for economic growth but also for national security, as it provides alternative landing sites in emergencies.
