The Jigawa State Police Command has moved to dispel public alarm, clarifying that a viral video purportedly showing armed bandits moving through Dutse metropolis was a misrepresentation of a local security group.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the police confirmed they had investigated the clip that surfaced on social media.
The viral video alleged that on October 28, 2025, a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles was seen speeding through Dutse. The Police Command has categorically described this report as “entirely false, misleading, and mischievous.”
According to the investigation, the individuals in the video were identified as members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation—commonly known as Hunters—from neighboring Bauchi State. The police clarified that the men were fully kitted with their traditional security tools, including dane guns, bows, and arrows.
The statement explained that the hunter team was returning from a security meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, located in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, when the video was recorded.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the viral video entirely, noting that such misinformation is capable of causing unnecessary panic and tension among residents.
It reassured the people of Jigawa State of its unwavering commitment to their safety and called for continued calm. The police encouraged citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear but to remain vigilant.
The statement concluded by appealing for ongoing public support, urging residents to provide the police and other security agencies with timely and credible information about any suspicious movements to help maintain peace and order across the state.
