The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that it will hold a two-day event on December 3 and 4, 2025, to commemorate 70 years of women in policing in Nigeria.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
Hundeyin said the commemoration marks “seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication to service” since the first set of policewomen were enlisted into the force in 1955.
According to him, the milestone celebration underscores the vital role women have played in strengthening law enforcement and fostering community trust across the nation.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, will join serving and retired female officers to mark the historic occasion.
Hundeyin quoted the IGP as commending the “invaluable contributions of women officers to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Nigeria Police Force.”
“The dedication and compassion of women in policing have continued to be integral to the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force,” the IGP said.
“In the past seven decades, women officers have distinguished themselves in administration, investigation, tactical operations, and leadership roles. They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation.”
The FPRO added that women in the police have redefined law enforcement through compassion and purpose-driven service.
Activities lined up for the 70th-anniversary celebration include:
- A national lecture,
 - A historical exhibition,
 - Interactive panel sessions, and
 - An outreach programme highlighting women’s achievements in policing.

Hundeyin said the celebration reflects the IGP’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and capacity development for women officers.
“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers — past and present — whose service has strengthened the institution and inspired generations,” he concluded.
