Retired General Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), delivered an impassioned farewell address, declaring Nigeria a nation “worth fighting for” and urging soldiers to remain steadfast in their duty.
The call was made during his Pulling-Out Parade in Abuja on Friday, marking the end of his distinguished 39-year military career. Gen. Musa described his service as “the greatest honour” of his life.
“This parade today is not just a ceremony; it marks the culmination of a career dedicated to the protection and unity of our beloved country,” he told the gathering.
He expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his appointment in 2023 and paid a heartfelt tribute to his family, whom he called the “unsung heroes” of his service. He also lauded the collaborative efforts of other security agencies, including the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), emphasizing that “no single institution can win this fight alone.”
While his active service has concluded, Gen. Musa affirmed his enduring patriotism, stating, “I remain a soldier at heart… I will continue to serve in whatever way I can.”
