Reno Omokri Under Fire After Denying Alleged Genocide in Plateau

A prominent Plateau State cleric, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has condemned former presidential aide Reno Omokri for publicly denying claims of a targeted campaign of killings against Christians in Plateau State, warning that Omokri will face divine judgment if he does not repent.

Rev. Dachomo, Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, made the remarks in a video shared on his Facebook page on Thursday. He accused Omokri of “discrediting” the plight of victims and said he has photographic evidence — including images of children — to support his assertion that killings are ongoing in parts of the state.

“There is genocide and I have evidence to prove this,” Rev. Dachomo said, adding that he would soon hold a press conference to present the material. He also criticised what he described as the government’s failure to protect vulnerable communities.

The cleric specifically reacted to previous comments by Omokri on social media, where Omokri disputed higher casualty figures after recent attacks in Plateau. Rev. Dachomo said Omokri’s public denial amounted to “spitting on the graves of innocent people” and declared that Omokri “will not escape” divine punishment unless he repents.

Omokri, a vocal commentator on national issues, has invited international fact-finding teams to verify claims of killings in Nigeria and has repeatedly disputed reports of large-scale, targeted killings in some northern states. He removed a Twitter/X post earlier this year that questioned reported casualty figures following a mass attack in Plateau.

Rev. Dachomo’s comments reflect deep anger and grief in affected communities; they also underscore the intense public debate over the scale and nature of violence in parts of Nigeria. Both the government and security agencies have faced criticism for perceived gaps in protection and response in violence-prone areas.
