
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested seven suspected cultists and recovered an arsenal of weapons during a precision raid on a hideout in the North Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State.
The operation, carried out on October 30, 2025, is part of ongoing efforts by the military to combat rising criminal activities and restore peace in the state capital and surrounding communities.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the troops recovered:
- Two locally fabricated pistols
- One cartridge and a round of 7.62mm ammunition
- An empty shell casing
- A dagger
- Several bags containing charms and other incriminating materials
The suspects, reportedly involved in armed robbery, drug abuse, and cult-related violence, are currently in custody for further investigation and prosecution.
Force Commander Maj. Gen. Moses Gara commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the fight against criminal elements. He also appealed to youths, particularly students, to avoid cultism and embrace discipline, patriotism, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Operation Whirl Stroke reiterated its commitment to ensuring peace and security across its operational areas in Benue and neighboring states.
