Pop sensation Charli XCX has been crowned Songwriter of the Year by the Brit Awards 2025, signaling a potential sweep at this year’s star-studded event on Saturday, March 1, at London’s O2 Arena.
The English singer, known for her genre-defying sound and bold artistic vision, leads the pack with five nominations, the most of any artist this year. Her critically acclaimed album, Brat, has solidified her place in the global music scene.
First Brit Award Win for Charli XCX After 12-Year Career
Despite being a recognized force in the industry, this marks Charli XCX’s first-ever Brit Award. She previously received nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Act but never secured a win.
Her recognition comes after she criticized the Brit Awards in 2023 for excluding female musicians from the Artist of the Year category, famously stating:
“We’re doing everything right. I don’t think it’s our fault; I think it might be theirs.”
This year, at 32 years old, Charli is a top contender for Best Artist, competing against Dua Lipa, Central Cee, and Sam Fender. She’s also nominated for:

Earlier this month, Charli XCX scored her first solo Grammy wins, taking home Best Dance Album and Best Packaging. She also closed the show with an electrifying performance of Von Dutch and Guess, ending with a shower of underwear on stage—later donated to the domestic violence charity, I Support Girls.
