Trump Shows More Concern for Nigerians Than Tinubu, Other Leaders – Timi Frank on CPC Designation

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has praised U.S. President Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) due to persistent human rights violations and the government’s failure to protect citizens from killings and insecurity.

In a statement on Saturday, Frank said the move demonstrates that Trump cares more about ordinary Nigerians than many elected leaders in the country, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He further called for targeted sanctions against corrupt Nigerian officials who perpetuate insecurity and impunity, urging that measures focus on perpetrators rather than innocent citizens.

Trump had announced on Friday that the United States is designating Nigeria as a CPC in response to what he described as widespread attacks on Christians in the country.

Reacting to the designation, Frank described the U.S. action as a bold and long-overdue decision, reflecting global acknowledgment of the Nigerian government’s negligence amid growing atrocities and systemic corruption.

“We commend President Trump for taking this stand; it is long overdue,” Frank said.
“By this action, President Trump has shown he cares more about the welfare and safety of ordinary Nigerians than those elected to lead them.”

He added:
“We appeal to the United States to ensure that ordinary Nigerians are protected from the fallout of sanctions after due investigations. The measures should target those directly responsible for the atrocities, not citizens already suffering from the government’s failures, Christians and non-Christians alike.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government rejected the U.S. designation, stating that the claims do not accurately reflect the situation on the ground.
