Demi Lovato Opens Up About Dreams of Motherhood, Marriage to Jutes, and Her Career: “I Think About It All the Time”

Demi Lovato is getting real about her future plans for family and music.

In a candid interview with Apple Music to promote her latest album It’s Not That Deep, the 33-year-old Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter shared her thoughts on starting a family with her husband, singer Jordan “Jutes” Lutes. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in May 2025, and it seems the idea of having children has been on Lovato’s mind ever since.

“I just got married. I’m thinking about kids, you know,” Lovato told interviewer Zane Lowe. “I think about, well, do I want to keep making music and do I want to keep touring, or do I feel like I’m not getting any younger? I think about it all the time.”

Lovato continued by addressing the pressure many women feel around fertility and timing. “Unfortunately, for people who are able to get pregnant, there’s a clock that ticks, and I think about that a lot. But then one could argue there’s adoption and there’s other alternative options for that,” she added.

Demi Lovato Contemplates Balancing Motherhood and Music

Despite her concerns, Lovato isn’t planning to give up her music career anytime soon. “I’m such a fluid person that I’m just going to take it as it comes,” she said. “Music will always be here for me as a creative outlet. I don’t think I ever want to write off music forever. Even if I was a mom, I’d still want to make music.”

Lovato’s new album It’s Not That Deep was officially released on Friday, October 24, 2025, marking a creative era that she admits is deeply personal and reflective. Earlier this week, the singer also announced her 2026 tour in support of the project, much to the excitement of her global fanbase.

Demi Lovato’s Longstanding Desire to Start a Family

Demi Lovato has been vocal in the past about her dreams of becoming a mother. Back in March 2021, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the pop star revealed that she had once envisioned herself being married and pregnant by now — a plan that ultimately shifted as her life and relationships evolved.

“I used to [want kids of my own],” Lovato shared on the podcast. “I think if anything, I want to adopt, more than anything.” She explained that after her highly publicized breakup with actor Max Ehrich, she realized that “life doesn’t go according to plan,” but she remained open to family-building and parenting in whatever form felt right.

Now happily married to Jutes and thriving musically, Lovato says she’s approaching life with openness, intention, and a full heart.

“It’s okay to ask yourself, when are you going to make that decision to step aside?” she reflected. “I’ve put so much energy into this [career]. I think about the future, my family, and I just want to do what feels right at the moment. And right now, I’m loving life — and I’m hopeful about what’s next.”
