Former Broadway Elphaba Shoshana Bean on Why She Hasn’t Seen the First ‘Wicked’ Movie Yet

New York City – November 1, 2025
Shoshana Bean, who starred as Elphaba on Broadway from 2005 to 2006, revealed why she hasn’t yet watched Wicked: Part 1, even though the follow-up, Wicked: For Good, hits theaters on November 21.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the New York Restoration Project’s Hulaween Gala on October 24, Bean explained she’s waiting to see both films back-to-back. “I waited until the second, so I could watch them in succession,” the 48-year-old said, adding that she’s “absolutely thrilled” for the experience.

Bean is particularly excited to see the song “No Good Deed” on the big screen. “It’s a very cinematic song, and I would love to see it have more life than what a stage is capable of doing,” she said, praising director Jon M. Chu’s vision.

Wicked: For Good stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with Jeff Goldblum and Jonathan Bailey reprising their roles as the Wizard and Fiyero, Ariana Grande returning as Glinda, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and others. Fans can also look forward to dramatic sequences like Fiyero’s capture and Elphaba’s iconic “No Good Deed” performance.

In addition to gearing up for the film, Bean is preparing for the release of her new album, Only Smoke, on November 4, and will headline Carnegie Hall for the first time on November 3.
