Abuja Lawyer Seeks CJN Intervention in Alleged Forgery Case, Ready for Polygraph Test

An Abuja-based lawyer, Victor Giwa, has appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate his claims that the office of the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been compromised in his ongoing trial over alleged forgery.

Giwa, in an affidavit attached to a motion dated October 27, 2025, requested the recusal of Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie from his case, citing fears that he would not receive a fair trial. He is standing trial alongside Bukola Ibitade for alleged forgery and impersonation.

The police accused Giwa of forging the letterhead of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Chief Awa Kalu. However, Chief Kalu issued a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, denying any complaint or allegation against Giwa and Ibitade. Despite this, the police proceeded with pressing charges.

In his affidavit, Giwa claimed that a staff member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Asabe Waziri, enjoys backing from certain officials within the FCT High Court, giving her favorable treatment in court. He alleged attempts to influence his trial, including a purported demand for ₦800 million to halt proceedings.

“I have no chance of getting justice before this Honourable Court as the outcome is pre-determined,” Giwa stated. He further expressed willingness to undergo a polygraph test to substantiate his claims.

Giwa called on the CJN, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the DSS to investigate the matter, emphasizing that he believes the content of his affidavit to be true and accurate under oath.
