Controversial Letters Surface Amid PDP Crisis, Officials Reject Suspension Claims
A fresh twist has emerged in the internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as purported warning letters, allegedly used to justify the suspension of some National Working Committee (NWC) members, surfaced in Abuja on Sunday.
The letters, dated September 30, 2025, were said to have been sent to the National Secretary and the National Organising Secretary, Capt Umar Bature (rtd). However, both officials have dismissed the documents as fabricated attempts to legitimize an “illogical and unworkable” suspension.
“It is nonsense! Can anyone there dare give me a warning letter?” asked Senator Anyanwu, while Bature emphasized that no one involved had the authority to issue warning letters or suspend members under the PDP constitution.
The letters included controversial signatories, such as Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced by the Wike/Anyanwu faction as the replacement for National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, as well as Chief Ali Odefa and Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, both of whom had their claims to party positions invalidated by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Despite the controversy, supporters of the Wike/Anyanwu faction, including former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, FCT Senator Philip Aduda, and former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, have congratulated the new leadership and called for improved performance compared to the previous administration under Damagum.
The PDP crisis underscores ongoing struggles within the party over authority, legitimacy, and internal governance ahead of upcoming political contests.
