Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis Fight Cancelled After Lawsuit; Paul Plans New Match for Late 2025

Boxing fans around the world have been left disappointed after the scheduled high-profile exhibition bout between YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and undefeated lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was officially called off. The match, slated for November 14, 2025, in Miami, Florida, was scrapped following a civil lawsuit filed against Davis in Miami-Dade County.

Why the Jake Paul–Gervonta Davis Fight Was Cancelled

Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the boxing promotion company co-founded by Jake Paul, confirmed in a Saturday statement that the legal issues surrounding Davis had prompted them to reassess the fight. By Monday, the decision to cancel had been finalized.

The lawsuit, the details of which have not yet been publicly disclosed, led to concerns over Davis’s ability to compete and the reputational risk of moving forward with the high-profile event. As a result, Jake Paul (12-1, 7 knockouts) announced he would instead headline a new event streamed on Netflix before the end of the year.

Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of MVP, said,

“Jake Paul remains committed to fighting before the end of 2025. Details of the opponent, date, and venue for the next event will be announced soon.”

Weight Difference Raised Eyebrows Even Before Cancellation

The now-cancelled fight had garnered considerable buzz due to the stark contrast in fighting weights and boxing backgrounds. Jake Paul, who typically competes in the cruiserweight division (around 200 pounds or 90 kg), was set to fight Gervonta Davis, who holds World Boxing Association (WBA) titles at the lightweight limit of 135 pounds (61 kg).

The unusual matchup, originally set for Atlanta before being moved to Miami, was sanctioned despite the large weight discrepancy—a factor that stirred debate among boxing enthusiasts.

Paul’s last major appearance in the ring was his blockbuster bout against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in 2024, which elevated his profile from YouTube star to legitimate boxing draw.

Ticket Refunds and What’s Next for Jake Paul

Most Valuable Promotions confirmed that fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster would receive full refunds following the cancellation. While Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) remains undefeated and one of the most prominent figures in U.S. boxing, he now faces public and legal scrutiny that may impact future fights.

Jake Paul, on the other hand, appears to be shifting focus toward finding a new opponent in what will likely be another high-visibility event streamed on Netflix. Rumors are already swirling about potential replacements as the 28-year-old continues to grow his unconventional yet successful boxing career.
