Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NPC) and Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos Chapter, has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Adegbite emphasized that while Christian communities have faced terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and banditry, Muslim communities and other groups have suffered equally.
“Churches have been attacked, pastors kidnapped, and communities displaced, but it is equally true that Muslim villages in Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, Sokoto, and Borno have been destroyed,” he said.
Adegbite stressed that Nigeria’s crisis is not a religious war, but rather a national security emergency rooted in terrorism and criminality. He urged the United States to provide support to help Nigeria tackle these challenges.
“No community can claim to have been spared,” he added, calling for collaborative efforts to address the insecurity affecting all Nigerians.
