The Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the brutal assault of a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Ndididamaka Agu, in the Emekuku area near Owerri.
The command’s action follows the circulation of a viral video showing the victim being attacked by a group of men.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, revealed that the assault was allegedly carried out because Mrs. Agu had cooperated with police officers during an earlier investigative visit to the community.
CP Orders Immediate Manhunt
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the command’s X-Squad Unit to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals involved in the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that six men were responsible for the attack.
CP Danjuma strongly condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable.” He issued a stern warning against any form of jungle justice or intimidation of citizens who lawfully assist the police, vowing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
Efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing, and they will be charged to court upon arrest.
