PDP Chieftain Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Mourns Late Comrade Abiodun Aremu

Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, visited Sango Ota, Ogun State to console the family of his late friend Abiodun “Aremson” Aremu, who passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a hit-and-run accident.

  • Hashim recalled meeting Aremu in 1986 as young student activists at the College of Technology, Ilorin, and their shared involvement in the Youths Thinkers Club and the Patriotic Liberation Movement.
  • He praised Aremu’s lifelong commitment to social justice, activism, and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, highlighting his choices to live among and support the less privileged.
  • Hashim remembered their joint protests against injustices, including the 1986 “Ango Must Go” protest, emphasizing Aremu’s courage and dedication to change.
  • Despite taking different professional paths—Aremu as a revolutionary and Hashim in entrepreneurship and politics—their bond remained ideologically strong.
  • Hashim described Aremu as an internationalist with a particular admiration for Cuba and Amilcar Cabral’s legacy, calling him a rare patriot and a true friend of the poor.
  • He concluded by praying for the fortitude of Aremu’s wife, Mrs. Funke, and their children, as they bear the weight of the loss.
