Nigerian musician and activist Folarin Falana (Falz) expressed his frustration over the growing tribal and religious divisions in Nigeria, calling the situation depressing.
Falz reacted to a tweet by fellow artist Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to put aside tribal and religious differences and hold leaders accountable:
“We’ve really kept quiet in this country… busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this Country first.”
Falz emphasized that Nigerians need to think independently and stop allowing politicians to manipulate them along ethnic and religious lines:
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point we need to start thinking for ourselves.”
His comments come amid a social media debate on Christian-Muslim supremacy, sparked by US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria to allegedly rescue Christians from attacks by Islamic extremists.
