As Anambra State prepares for its governorship election on Saturday, the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, has urged residents to vote according to their conscience and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking to journalists in Onitsha on Monday, the revered monarch stressed the importance of a free, fair, and credible election, describing it as vital to the future of the state.
“There is a need for our people to vote according to their conscience and reject vote buying and apathy. The future of Anambra depends on the decisions made at the polls,” Achebe said.
He appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves with decorum and respect for the rule of law before, during, and after the election.
“I urge political parties, candidates, and their supporters to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law throughout the electoral process,” he added.
The traditional ruler also called on the federal government to intensify efforts to alleviate poverty and reduce hunger across the country, noting that hardship and insecurity have continued to affect the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Achebe expressed concern over the rising insecurity nationwide and urged relevant authorities to take urgent steps to restore peace and protect citizens.
Emphasizing the need for unity and resilience, he encouraged Anambra residents to uphold the enduring moral and cultural values of Ndigbo as a foundation for progress and development in the state.
“Let us remain united, persevere through challenges, and work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Anambra,” the monarch concluded.
