Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has firmly ruled out the idea of swapping Vinicius Junior’s position with Kylian Mbappe, dismissing any suggestions of a change.
Mbappe, who became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time top scorer during his tenure with the French club, had been primarily deployed on the left wing throughout his time in Ligue 1. However, since his move to Real Madrid last summer, the French forward has taken up a more central role, with Vinicius Junior continuing to operate on the left wing for Los Blancos.
There have been growing calls from some quarters for Ancelotti to consider swapping the two forwards, given their respective talents and potential fit in different roles. Despite this, Ancelotti has made it clear that he has no intention of making such a move. Speaking to the media ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Osasuna, the Italian manager explained that he is not interested in altering Vinicius’s role, emphasizing the Brazilian’s crucial contribution to the team.
“I didn’t want to switch the position of Vinicius, who makes the difference for us,” Ancelotti stated. He acknowledged that during the course of a match, there may be moments when Vinicius and Mbappe briefly interchange positions, but insisted that this should not be seen as a permanent tactical shift.
“It’s not a matter of offensive positioning; it’s more about how we approach things defensively,” he added, making it clear that his preference is to maintain the current structure and focus on the team’s overall defensive stability rather than disrupt the offensive setup by switching positions between the two forwards.
