Osun Assembly Passes Multi-Door Courthouse, Traffic Regulation Bills

The Osun State House of Assembly has passed two significant pieces of legislation — the Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill and the Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025 — aimed at reforming the state’s justice and transportation systems.

The bills were passed during Monday’s plenary session at the Assembly complex in Osogbo, following their third readings.

The Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill, which had been under consideration for about a year, seeks to promote alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms within the state’s judicial framework.

According to a statement issued by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, the legislation represents “a landmark move aimed at reforming the judicial system in the state.”

The bill’s sponsor, Femi Popoola, explained that it was designed to “provide diverse options for dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and conciliation,” adding that it would help reduce congestion in conventional courts and correctional facilities while ensuring timely justice delivery.

Tiamiyu also confirmed the passage of the Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025, describing it as an executive bill intended to strengthen road safety regulation across the state.

He said, “The legislation ensures the inspection, control, and enforcement of roadworthiness standards for vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, trucks, and trailers within the state. It also mandates collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance road safety and compliance.”

Speaker Adewale Egbedun, while addressing the House after the session, commended lawmakers for their dedication to legislative reforms aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and promoting the state’s development.

Egbedun confirmed that clean copies of both bills would be transmitted to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his assent.
