Federal lawmaker Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa narrowly escaped death on Tuesday when suspected terrorists ambushed his convoy in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.
The attack occurred along the Lumma–Babanna road, as Damisa, representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency, was en route to Babanna for an official engagement. Gunmen, identified as “Lakurawa terrorists” or local bandits, opened fire on his convoy in the afternoon, catching security personnel off guard.
Security escorts returned fire, but one soldier was killed, and several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Some political supporters were also hurt during the chaos.
Witnesses reported continuous gunfire, which left at least 11 vehicles riddled with bullets before they were later cleared from the scene. Despite the intensity of the attack, Damisa escaped unharmed.
