Kano Hails Lagos Transport Reforms as Model for Modern Mobility

The Kano State Government has commended Lagos State for its successful transformation of the transport sector during a study tour by senior officials of the Kano State Transport Authority.

Led by Kano Commissioner for Transportation, Haruna Isa Dederi, the delegation aimed to learn from Lagos’ reforms as part of Kano’s plan to modernize its transport system, following Governor Abba Yusuf’s directive to reposition the state’s transport authority.

Dederi highlighted Lagos’ achievements in institutional restructuring, infrastructure renewal, technology-driven operations, and public-private partnerships, citing the BRT corridors, Traffic Radio, inland waterways, rail integration, and the LAMATA transport master plan as continental benchmarks.

Lagos officials, represented by Permanent Secretary Olawale Musa, assured full support for Kano’s reforms, emphasizing that sustained planning and investment are critical for a functional transport system. Musa noted that both states face similar challenges due to fast-growing populations and pledged collaboration to enhance mobility, planning, and service delivery.
